A butt augmentation, more commonly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift, aims to increase the size of the buttocks by using silicone implants or the patient’s own fat cells transferred to the buttocks region.
Benefits of a butt augmentation
- A lifted shapely appearance
- Better fitting clothes
- Improved contours
- The waist appears smaller
- A boost in self confidence
- Proportioned feminine curves
If you’re lacking the proper contours in the gluteal area, you have fat that can be used from other areas and you’re a healthy adult that’s no longer happy with the shape of your buttocks, you might want to discuss the details and the options available to help you achieve the desired shape.
About the procedure
The butt augmentation is an outpatient procedure, performed under general anesthesia. While the patient is lying down on the stomach, the surgeon will make an incision either at the crease where the buttocks meets the upper legs or in the crease near the anus.
A pocket is made to insert the implant or fat tissue. The surgeon will contour the area to match each patient’s body and desired shape.
What are the risks of a butt augmentation?
Risks involved in this procedure are higher than other cosmetic procedures; you may need to repeat the surgery if faced with complications. If the fat transfer method is used, a liposuction (lipoplasty) procedure will be required to harvest the fat.
Your surgeon will discuss all the risks involved in your butt augmentation surgery; here are a few of the most common risks:
- Shifting or movement if implants are used
- Higher risk of infection if incisions are near the anus
- Muscle damage
- Nerve damage
- Reaction to anesthesia
- May require multiple surgeries
Simply put, it’s a pain in the butt. The surgery itself takes approximately 3 hours, the recovery period can take up to 4 weeks, patients will generally return to work after the second week.
For two weeks, patients must avoid sitting down, since this area sees a lot of stress from regular daily activities, patients tend to feel a great deal of pain during the recovery. Here are a few things you can expect:
